DESCRIPTION: Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ) Ltd have minimised waste to landfill by light-weighting all bottles and the use of recycled resin.

JUDGES COMMENTS: This company has supported recycling to the tune of $2.2 million. They are to be commended for their work in the Environmental Beverage Action Group and the general ongoing programme of "light weighting" packaging. They have stopped using 100% pure resin in production and are endeavouring to maximise the recycled content.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
WINNER: Sealed Air New Zealand Ltd

FOR: Cheese Bag Vacuum Brick Pack

DESCRIPTION: This concept was developed for the collation and protection of bundles of 250 to 300 gusseted cheese bags produced by Sealed Air and supplied to the local and global dairy industry for packaging of 20kg blocks of cheese.

JUDGES COMMENTS: An innovative, smart use of an existing process to create a stable package using very low amounts of packaging for the weight of the product packaged. The downstream packaging reduction has proven to be significant.

FOR: Living Nature Range

DESCRIPTION: During 2005 Living Nature decided to change their packaging to something more environmentally friendly for a global relaunch of the brand.

JUDGES COMMENTS: This entrant has used a newly developed material to gain innovative optimum moulding across all components of the packaging while maintaining environmental considerations.

ENTRY TITLE: Palmart Collapsible Pallet Bin

DESCRIPTION: The 3D modelling software design process' environmental benefit saw the reduction in numbers of non-recyclable prototype items and reduction in mould manufacturing costs as could use high speed CNC milling processes to produce tools.

DESCRIPTION: Viscount Plastics worked with Nestle NZ and Australia to design a plastic alternative to metal cans for packaging Maggi Stock soups, stock, sauces and desserts for distribution to the food service market in both countries.
