WINNER
WINNER: Maniaia Mist Paper Solutions Ltd

FOR: Kiwifruit tray for organic and export market

DESCRIPTION: Maniaia Mist’s first product, a fruit fibre tray is an iconic innovation made of 65% kiwifruit pulp and 35% unbleached Kraft for use in organic export markets. No artificial additives/chemicals used in the process. Trays are inert by using the dry forming process, are biodegradable, compostable and recyclable.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Turning waste into gold is not easy however this entry has shown that "Kiwi ingenuity" and collaboration can overcome many hurdles. Making packaging from waste and enhancing its value. This entry is an excellent use of a by-product. Much research and development is evident in this innovative combination of material and processing design.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
WINNER: Sealed Air NZ Limited

FOR: Cheese Bag Vacuum Brick Pack

DESCRIPTION: This concept was developed for the collation and protection of bundles of 250 to 300 gusseted cheese bags produced by Sealed Air and supplied to the local and global dairy industry for packaging of 20kg blocks of cheese.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Sometimes the design which is the simplest has great legs! The package design has cunningly reduced packaging weight by a simple process while still retaining the pack integrity. A new innovative pack processing technique using existing packaging creates product stability. Very low amounts of packaging are being used for the weight of the product being packed.

ENTRY TITLE: Clearwater Organic Dairy Cream Top Yoghurt Tub

DESCRIPTION: Clearwater Cream Top Yoghurt is “set in the pot” therefore the packaging must be produced, delivered and stored in a way that ensures no contamination.

ENTRY TITLE: Palmart Collapsible Pallet Bin

DESCRIPTION: The 3D modelling software design process’ environmental benefit saw the reduction in numbers of non-recyclable prototype items and reduction in mould manufacturing costs as could use high speed CNC milling processes to produce tools.

ENTRY TITLE: 15kg Produce Bin

DESCRIPTION: A corrugated produce crate for the packing of fresh produce for the domestic market. The crate has been designed as a substitute for the plastic crates currently used in the NZ market.
