DESCRIPTION: Hubbard Foods Ltd has recently completed the change over of all cereal packets from Artcote White to Artcote Grey which increases the recycled content from 30-80%.

JUDGES COMMENTS: The depth of the evaluation of their packaging against environmental criteria by this entrant was exceptional right down to the toxicity of inks and glues. A first class piece of analysis for smart packaging, still functional and marketable but with the lowest possible environmental footprint.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
WINNER: Maniaia Mist Paper Solutions Ltd

FOR: Kiwifruit tray for organic and export markets

DESCRIPTION: Maniaia Mist’s first product, a fruit fibre tray is an iconic innovation made of 65% kiwifruit pulp and 35% unbleached Kraft for use in organic export markets. No artificial additives/chemicals used in the process. Trays are inert by using the dry forming process, are biodegradable, compostable and recyclable.

JUDGES COMMENTS: This entrant has innovatively used wood pulp and kiwi fruit pulp/skin to produce an export tray. This is an excellent use of a bi-product. Much research and development is evident in this innovative combination of material and processing design.

DESCRIPTION: The aim was to develop an alternative to plastic shopping bags to contribute to Foodstuffs commitment to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags by 20% by 2009 under the NZ Packaging Accord.

ENTRY TITLE: 15kg Produce Bin

DESCRIPTION: A corrugated produce crate for the packing of fresh produce for the domestic market. The crate has been designed as a substitute for the plastic crates currently used in the NZ market.
