This category is for school's educational programmes that encourage the concepts of 'reduce, re-use, recycle'.

WINNER: GLASS PACKAGING FORUM

FOR: COMMUNITY GLASS RECYCLING PROMOTIONS & NATIONWIDE GLASS RAP COMPETITION RAP'N IT UP FOR RECYCLING

DESCRIPTION: When the Glass Packaging Forum launched it's mobile glass crusher at Parliament one of the school children present at the launch suggested that finding a name for the glass crusher would make a great school's competition.

This idea developed into a nationwide competition for nine to fifteen year olds fronted by Che Fu who agreed to use his music to get young people to consider their role in preserving New Zealand's environment.

Over 65 entries were received involving 220 students from Whangarei to Dunedin. For each entry the students conducted research into glass recycling, then put their research words into a rap developed by Che Fu. The two winning schools were Fairfield in Dunedin & Fitzroy in New Plymouth.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Impact and innovation using rap music provides a powerful medium to engage schools. It is creative and appropriate for youth. The message isn't just about glass, it is an exciting big campaign which has focused on a broad approach
