This category is directed at young designers at tertiary level ONLY and NEED NOT be in commercial production.

WINNER: MARIAM ELWI SEAT, MASSEY UNIVERSITY

FOR: PLANTRONICS BLUETOOTH HEADSET PACKAGING

DESCRIPTION: Research identified that only 15% of the actual package is used to house the product. Once the product is sold the retail outlets are typically left with the packaging which the consumer doesn't want. The new proposed package has several advantages over the existing packaging: Utilising the most effectively recycled material in NZ - Cardboard.

It uses one one type of packaging material as opposed to four in the existing It eliminates the need for a separate instruction manual - this is now on the pack It requires 70% less space than the existing package..Improved logistics from reduced size. Easy to flatten which encourages material recovery and recycling

JUDGES COMMENTS: This entry simplified the package whilst providing a practical solution for a modern day issue. The solution was practical and marketable. Targeting a product that is modern, high volume leads to a greater environmental impact.
