Who should be a member & why

Who we represent

We represent the whole packaging life cycle, including raw material suppliers, packaging manufacturers, brand owners, retailers, recycling operators and service providers.  We provide one united voice to government, the media, consumers and the New Zealand community on packaging issues.

What we offer

  • We are well connected nationally and internationally and will save you precious staff time by obtaining early warning of proposals for environmental legislation and standards affecting packaging, with professional guidance and advice on possible impact.

  • We are the conduit to our voluntary, best cost, product stewardship scheme for packaging that positively reinforces your corporate social responsibility commitments.  We assist members with their annual reporting to the Packaging Council against the scheme’s key performance indicators.

  • We offer in-depth advice on how to adopt the principles of our Code of Practice for Packaging Design, Education and Procurement into your business.

  • We can provide practical advice on the environmental impact of packaging, including design, lifecycle analysis, carbon footprint measurements, recyclability and end-of-life options for packaging waste.

  • We publish reports on New Zealand’s packaging consumption, recycling rate and packaging trends and make international comparisons.

  • We offer a wide variety of opportunities through seminars, workshops and social gatherings for members to network with other companies and service providers for mutual benefit.

  • As a unified lobby and advocacy group with critical mass, we communicate with government, the media and wider community to manage industry wide issues about the environmental impact of packaging.

  • We promote the positive contribution packaging makes to society and the economy.
