DAY TWO - COLLABORATION

Our ‘Collaboration’ session included an opportunity for delegates to produce a basic carbon footprint for their businesses measured against green house gas protocol standards.  Measuring and understanding this data will become a key business driver in the future.  The presentations on day two provided advice on how this information should be used to drive strategic business decisions.

Alan Emmerson, New Zealand’s Al Gore Ambassador

Alan Emmerson

Alan Emmerson is a member of Climate Project – Australia, Al Gore's climate change leadership programme with the Australian Conservation Foundation, which has trained 250 people as volunteer climate change presenters.

Alan presented ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ to remind delegates of the external factors which have made ‘climate change’ one of the biggest business challenges of the 21st century.

Terry Quilty
Terry Quilty

Terry Quilty walked delegates through the maze of regulated and non-regulated carbon markets.

His first message was that any business should first determine the relevance of measuring its carbon footprint.  Terry explained that the carbon markets can be very expensive for a company acting alone, but by collaborating, businesses can reduce those costs dramatically.
