DAY ONE - INNOVATION |
Our ‘Innovation’ session provided an invaluable insight into the R & D work currently underway in New Zealand, demonstrated the economic mechanisms available for development of innovative products and services and how to access these once you understand the revenue flow.

Tony's keynote speech discussed the opportunities and obstacles to New Zealand’s innovation within a global context.
Tony commented that to compete, not just with countries, but with corporations that are bigger than New Zealand, business needs to collaborate with other companies, with academia and with government departments.

Scion is a Crown Research Institute at the forefront of developing new technologies - with or on behalf of industry. Scion's presentations reiterated the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors and focussed on exciting research into new packaging technologies, sustainable bio-packaging and how technology development benefits industry. |

DAY TWO - COLLABORATION
|
| Our ‘Collaboration’ session included an opportunity for delegates to produce a basic carbon footprint for their businesses measured against green house gas protocol standards. Measuring and understanding this data will become a key business driver in the future. The presentations on day two provided advice on how this information should be used to drive strategic business decisions. |

Alan Emmerson, New Zealand’s Al Gore Ambassador

Alan Emmerson is a member of Climate Project – Australia, Al Gore's climate change leadership programme with the Australian Conservation Foundation, which has trained 250 people as volunteer climate change presenters.
Alan presented ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ to remind delegates of the external factors which have made ‘climate change’ one of the biggest business challenges of the 21st century.

| Terry Quilty |
|
Terry Quilty walked delegates through the maze of regulated and non-regulated carbon markets.
His first message was that any business should first determine the relevance of measuring its carbon footprint. Terry explained that the carbon markets can be very expensive for a company acting alone, but by collaborating, businesses can reduce those costs dramatically.

DAY THREE - REGULATION |
| Our ‘Regulation’ session brought together aspects from days one and two and included the opportunity for delegates to produce a basic waste management assessment for their businesses. The presentations focussed on how the new regulatory frameworks could be used to a business advantage rather than being an added cost to business. |
